I think your experience has less to do with Audiogon specifically and more with dealing with all kinds of people. I'm sorry you had this experience. I don't think there is a way around this unless you're willing to sell to a dealer at a lot less than you would get from a private sale and even then there's no guarantee you won't be treated like poop.
You are quite right Alex, still be prepared when selling stuff on this site as there are all kinds out there
Yeah- that's really too bad. All my experiences have been excellent on Audiogon. I think half my gear is from there, and the old half was happily sold on there too. But as Alex said, there are always a few bad apples around- looks like you got one.
I've probably been involved with 15 or so transactions on there, all of them have been positive. It must be reported that I've seen questionable behavior. Friday evening I ran across an classified where a guy was asking $140 for an $18 set of Transparent banana adapters. According to him they were rare and he'd never seen another pair. He even went as far as to dress them up by putting them in the packaging of another Transparent product. I emailed the audiogon authorities and it looks like they've pulled the auction. Hats off to them for working on the weekends
I assume that these e-mails came to you personally at your regular e-mail address.
One way to get around that is to use an e-mail address that you normally do not use too much; most ISP's allow you to have at least 4 addresses. That way you can temporarily stop using that one if there is a problem.
Also, most ISP's have a place where you can put in a block on a specific e-mail address that the offender is sending from.
