Totally new Heads: HeadRoom has released new versions of its Total BitHead and Total AirHead headphone amplifiers. Both models feature new, quieter volume potentiometers and improved audio chips for superior sound.

The new Total AirHead ($149) can run off four AAA batteries or an optional DC power supply and can drive two headphones via 1/8" mini headphone jacks. It features HeadRoom's Crossfeed circuit and a selectable gain switch, enabling it to drive a wide variety of headphones.

The Total BitHead ($199) adds USB input functionality, making it the perfect mate to laptop or desktop computers.

Musical Sounds' Atoll: Musical Sounds is now importing the French electronics line Atoll Electronique, which manufactures, among other components, the CD100 CD player and AN100 integrated amplifier that impressed Sam Tellig in the April 2003 Stereophile. Tellig reported that the Atoll components "were not embarrassed" in comparisons with components costing up to five times as much.

Atoll offers four CD players: CD50 ($1000), CD80 ($1350), CD100 ($1500), and CD200 ($2000).

There are three solid-state preamplifiers—PR100 ($1000), PR200 ($1300), and PR300 ($2000)—as well as a surround processor/preamp, the PR5.1 ($2500).

There are four integrated amplifiers: IN50 (50Wpc; $1000), IN80 (80Wpc; $1300), IN100 (100Wpc; $1500), and IN200 (200Wpc; $2250).

Atoll also offers four stereo amplifiers (all bridgeable to mono): AM50 (50Wpc; $900), AM80 (80Wpc: $1000), AM100 (100Wpc; $1300), and AM200 (200Wpc; $2000).

Four A/V amplifiers complete the line: AV50 (3 x 50Wpc; $1000), AV80 (3 x 80Wpc; $1300), AV100 (3 x 100Wpc; $1500), and AV500 (5 x 100Wpc; $1750).
