How often do you listen to music through headphones?

Some folks like headphones for the privacy, others for the sound. How often do you go for "cans" instead of speakers?

When doing equipment listening tests, like when I replaced the head on a cassette deck recently. Also I listen when doing some critical editing on my PC of LP's that I'm dubbing to CD's. I like my Sony phones, they were a Stereophile rated pair several years ago, they still sound great!

I like to listen while commuting on the subway and music is the only thing that makes those 22 hour flights to the Philippnes bearable. But I do all my headphone listening with cheap 'phones in noisy places.

If you want to se the "real" audiophile headphone community visit www.head-fi.com or www.headwize.com

Sub $1000 headphones can almost always sound better than sub $100,000 speakers. And I don't need to build a room just for the purpose of listening.

No need for now. But in a coule of years, my kids won't be able to sleep thru my late night listening sessions, so I can see quality headphones on the horizon.

Please do more headphone reviews. There's more out there then just Grado RS-1 and Senn HD-600 headphones.

I think, therefore I can!

Every day at work. But all home listening is with speakers (ProAc Response 2S).

Headphones give you the most bang for your audiophile dollar!

Rarely, because I only use headphones for working out at the gym.

it's a cheaper way to hear good quuailty music.

Well, almost all the time

I'm just posting this BS as a way of complaining that despite numerous contributions to "This Week's Vote", Stereophile's website never publishes any of them (even though you publish contributions from people who sign their name "Anonymous"). So there. :-)

Besides the fact that I don't have the accoustics in any given room to fully experience high-end loud speakers, even if I did, my wife wouldn't have it. I listen to music easily 50% of my day and 100% of that is through headphones. The only way to experience my CD collection the way it should be experienced is through exceptional headphones and an accompanying amp. I have the GRADO Reference collection (RS-1 + RA-1) and the Sennheiser Orpheus. Exhuberant, expensive . . . but worth it. I listen to my music when I want and the way I want.

I LOVE My Beyerdynamic DT-831s and my headphone amp! These things rock! I have to upgrade to Etymotic ER4Ses or Sony MDR-CD3000s, and a Cosmic Headphone amp to drive them, though. Anyway, you all should get into headphones some more. Check out www.headphone.com and www.headwize.com and www.head-fi.org. The last two are forums, BTW.

Awesome performance:price is achievable with headphones. Privacy and noise is almost a non-issue.

Headphones cost less and sound better than speakers, unless you've got loads of money. Www.head-fi.com is the best.

As an owner of seven sets of speakers and one pair of cans, the cans get very little time on the head, but they were still worth the money!

Headphones are a great starting point for anyone. They allow people to listen to the possibilities of a high end system before they have the money to buy them. Aside from that, they provide a more personal connection to the music. For those of us not blessed with a physical room dedicated to our audio equipment, a headphone is wonderful for creating an imaginary one inside our heads.

Headphones are incredibly convenient for portable use and privacy and respect for others, but the best thing I love about them is how little you can spend and get the same sound as $1000+ or top-of-the-line speakers. Please have more headphone reviews, there really is a market out there.

Partly for privacy, but mainly for the sound quality which is expensive to match in speakers.

Although I have the Sennheiser HD600s that you folks rated as class A (and I do like them a lot—they sound fabulous), I have them tucked under a table in their storage box out of the way. I guess it's a case of "out of sight, out of mind." I think I'll move them out in the open so that I'll think about using them. They sound better than my speakers.

Using Sennheisers DSP processor with HD580 headphones and a Yamaha DSP-1 to generate hall ambiance, I can get the sound way out of my head. The only drawback is a very slight veiling, but I'm willing to live with it.

Only for live recording.

I listen to headphones at least two hours a day. I wear them at work and while traveling for privacy and concentration. I own Beyer DT-911 and Etymotic ER4P. I drive them with Grado and Headroom headphone amps. While I still prefer my main system, listen to good music through excellent headphone equipment is a great experience!

I listen to Sennhieser HD580s via Audio Alchemy HPA1 amp—very good sound. :-))

My Sennheiser HD600s have been my main source of listening pleasure for the last seven months.

Stax heaphones made a mistake by raisng the price of thier headphones. They could directly challenge the speaker industry if the charged a more realistic price.

Listening to music through headphones provides an alternative listening experience. In my opinion using both speakers or headphones as transducers has its davantages depending on both the music and external circumstances.

Speakers suck. Headphones rule!
