Yes. everyone in the house can use the system;but the turntable is of limit since one of the kid played the rubber mat!!!

Doc Kaye's picture

They would not dare. If something went wrong, they could not afford the repair!

I share my system with my wife. I am slowly showing her how it works, component by component. After all, someday I may not be around to run it for her. Oh, did I mention the orbiting death ray that will target anyone else who touches it? ;-)

ARE YOU CRAZY?

but not if I can help it!

I am a lucky guy. My wife loves our hifi too and BIG speakers. I can't deny her to use our system. One problem, women and vinyl dos'nt work well. Soren

Absolutely -- but hands off the vinyl. They can't harm anything else.

Matthew Anker's picture

Absolutely not. However, I'll adjust other peoples' systems.

But as I move from a combo HT/Audio system to two dedicated system one for ht and a dedicated audio system the complexity of operating both will increase. So I will still have to take the calls, "Honey, how do I play a CD?" Absolute Power, HAA!

Only my 16 going on 36 year old son! All others KEEP AWAY!!

I'll let an audio buddy change cd'd or volume. otherwise, it's hands off.

Mostly no one dares. However, a friend will be staying in my apartment while I go away this summer and so far I've resisted the temptation to pack everything up. Well, maybe I'll put away the turntable . . .

I have 3threeroommates at college, and my receiver is always on so the TV can utilize my speakers. Why would anyone listen to TV speakers? They don't seem interested in listening to music, though! Probably because they mostly listen to MP3s.

By "use your audio system," do you mean acutally touch it with their dirty, smelly fingers? No, of course not. But others can listen to my audio system while I do all the "touching." I even let them sit in the sweet spot.

Obviously, my wife uses my system all the time. Since it is also a HT system (I know it's wrong, but I'm poor), I made the learning touchscreen remote so easy to use, a baby could, but hopefully would not, use it.

My wife uses "my" system all the time. She is a nurse, so I'm pretty sure she has the required intellect to operate an integrated amp and a CD player. She is also qualified to use a record brush before spinning vinyl. Guys, get a grip! At the end of the day it is just a stereo.

Simply put, If it worked perfectly when I left and no one uses it, it will work perfectly when i go to use it again.

I own a mega-tens-of-thousands-of-dollars audio system. So what? Everyone, especially my wife and two beautiful daughters, are encouraged to play around with the system, learn its operation, and enjoy listening to it. After all, if music is the universal language, why cut off the very conduit that makes listening to that universal language accesible? To me, being an "audiophile" not only implies having a passion for good music, but also denotes an obligation to share that passion with others.

I think it is important to let my wife use the stereo. The more she gets into it the less trouble I have upgrading. I really enjoy seeing her and our four year old enjoying music and the stereo rather than watching television. Music is such a part of our house it should be enjoyed by everyone. However, I do have an Oracle Delphi that I only use.

Thus are we deemed lunatics by the unbelievers.

TPBrown's picture

After having one bad experience with a relatives child poking out the dust caps on my subwoofers drivers I had to do something. In our new house the stereo is in its own room under lock and key, which is really a shame because my wife used to use like to listen to music while she did things around the house but now she uses her boombox.

Jack Hames's picture

My family is free to use the system, but rarely do, probably intimidated by complexity

GORD PEDERSEN's picture

Hey, if you want to mess with a system but your own.

Dave, MN's picture

I used to let a friend play their vinyl, but when I caught him dropping the needle not so gently, I revoked the privilege!

Joe Ferrente's picture

If I had to keep evryone away from the controls I wouldn't want it. I draw the line at the turntable. It took a long time to save up for the Koetsu!

Chris Kenney's picture

This is not a lawnmower! Do you really think the vcr challenged would know what they're doing?

Haoleb's picture

I am the only one that can use it, nobody else has the extensive knowledge it takes to play a cd or turn on my Amp. Besides i dont want fingerprints all over my gear!

Jon Strongman's picture

My partner has trouble driving it, so she is reluctant do anything other than listen to a CD.
