You can connect a tuner to the coaxial input only if the tuner has a digital coaxial output. I do not know if your intended tuner has digital output, analog output, or both.
Concerning the TEAC UD-H01, it looks good as a basic DAC and headphone amp, but I think it might lack a volume control of the XLR and RCA outputs, which would make it less than ideal for feeding active speakers. You would have to use software volume control. If its volume knob does control the RCA/XLR's in addition to the headphone jack, then you're good. Personally, I would also look for a unit that had an analog input, which might be something you could need down the road.
It looks like you're heading in the right direction.
Do the speakers have an analog input? I assume they do.
A tuner usually will have an analog output, so there is no need to go through the DAC.
Just connect the output of the DAC and any other analog sources directly to the speakers, through a switch box like the Cables to Go #28750, which is under $20 and will switch 4 inputs.
:-) Ha! Good luck trying to find a tuner component with coaxial out right?! The only one I could find was the McIntosh Labs one which is out of my price range.
On a positive note you have got me thinking about looking for a DAC/Pre-amp with at least one analog input (and a remote would be nice too) so I am considering the Emotiva Stealth Dc-1. It looks like the Tivoli Model One Radio can be used as an outboard tuner by connecting the record out mini jack to the analog input of the the dac. Hopefully the Stealth will allow me to control the volume of all my components. I'll have to investigate that. Thanks so much for you help.
Hey thanks I never thought of that. That sounds like a good solution except that I would like to be able to control the volume of all of my components with one remote. Also the Tivoli does not come with a remote so I guess I would have to get up every time I had to adjust the volume.
