Gay Marriage

Well, the Greek gods have the gay marriage issue on their dockets.  Legally, I don't have a problem with it.  If they want to enter into the legal ramifications of marriage then let them have it.  I've been hearing some really stupid arguments throughout this debate on both sides and they are all fucking idiots that can't debate their way out of a wet paper sack.  It boils down to this.  For legal purposes it is not a problem.  If you are a "God" person it is not your problem either.  If you are a "God" person the only thing you can do is prayer for their souls and they won't know about that so what the heck.  I always like to quote from movies as an analogy of some sort because most techies have never read a Greek novel in their entire lives.

BUNNY
... y'know some of the things we done, I don't feel
like we done something wrong but sometimes y'know I
get this bad feeling.  Not all that shit the
Chaplain's jamming up our ass 'bout the Good Lord ...
just a fucking bad feeling, y'know what I mean?
Don't know why.  I told the Chaplain the truth is I
really like it here.  You do what you want, nobody
fucks with you.  Only worry you got's dying and if
dat happens you won't know about it anyway.  So what
    the fuck ...

And as usual, The American people are acting like this is the fucking black plague of 1350 or 1939 Poland.  America?  History didn't start yesterday. Let's continue.

Let me add...

Dear Republican Party,

You are my party, and I'm a proud Republican.  When you made a deal with the devil to invite Southern Conservatives into the party to draw them away from the Democrat party, you asked for all that you got.  Now, instead of American liberalism and traditionalism, we have big fat Capital C Conservatism.  And all it's warts.  Racism, Sexism, Morallism, et al...  Now, in the modern world, people are searching for traditional small l liberalism, and they are left with a far right party and a far left party, and they are voting leftward, and you, the Republican Party deserve your fate.

So, if there are any Republicans reading this, understand.   Let me explain what the silent majority of Republicans believe, though we are drowned out by the Christian Right.  We believe in strong protection of privacy, property, and liberty.  Put in a way apprapo to the gay marriage discussion..

I don't care who you fuck, where you fuck, or how you fuck..  Just stay off my fucking lawn.

Peace out.

Well

When gay marriage's were first permitted here in Canada a bunch of years back , I didn't give it much thought . But later when I found out that those married people had all the same rights as others , including the right to adopt children , I really started to question our government , not to mention wishing I lived somewhere else .

Marriage equality will soon

Marriage equality will soon be the law of the land in the US. At one time people of different races were not allowed to marry. We look back at those laws and shake our heads. We will do that years down the road when we remember the fight for all loving consenting adults the right to marry.

There are estimates that gays are 4-10% of the population. When you think about how many of that percentage is in long term relationships and want to be married I wonder why so many are against it? Each new generation has a higher percentage of people that support marriage equality. I think we are now as a nation at a 52 or 53% approval and for people 30 and younger we are about 90% approval.

GAY MARRIAGE

I think they should have the same right to suffer as every other married fool.

Why should we be alone; misery loves company.

Score one more for equal rights!

New Zealand's parliament has legalised same-sex marriage, the first country in the Asia-Pacific region to do so.

Lawmakers approved the bill, amending the 1955 marriage act, despite opposition from Christian lobby groups.

The bill was passed with a wide majority, with 77 votes in favour and 44 against.

Hundreds of jubilant gay-rights advocates celebrated outside parliament after the bill was passed, calling it a milestone for equality.

People watching from the public gallery and some lawmakers immediately broke into song, singing the New Zealand love song "Pokarekare Ana", AP news agency reported.

Some opinion polls have suggested that about two-thirds of New Zealanders support the reform, although others polls suggest the public are more divided.

Parliamentarians were allowed a conscience vote, and, crucially, the reform had the backing of both the Prime Minister John Key and leader of the opposition David Shearer, the BBC's Phil Mercer in Sydney reports.

Celebrations have been held in pubs and clubs in the capital Wellington, our correspondent adds.

Same-sex civil unions have been legal in New Zealand since 2005.

Exactly! I don't mind two

Exactly! I don't mind two people's getting married if they love each other, but stupid liberals don't understand that after 3-4 generations we will end up having 50% of gay population although a natural percentage of gay people is about 2%. Kids copy their parents' models of behavior and the chances that a gay couple will grow a gay kid are too high to take the risks.

Since 100%

Since 100% of homosexuals come from heterosexual unions, then by your logic we should ban all marriage.

Why are we SO concerned about other folks?

Live and let live.  Why is that so hard for some people?  If you don't like it, you don't have to marry a man yourself.  Just stay the heck out of other people's lives.

I'm new on the forum (but a 20+ year 'phile and reader) and I'm a bit bummed to see that the 'noisiest' posters are so far out there on the right edge of the political spectrum.  Well, I probably shouldn't be surprised as, very generally speaking, high end audio does seem to be a hobby of above average income old white fats (me included).  Fortunately for the U.S. as a whole many of this ilk are dying off (although this is probably unfortunately for the high end audio industry).

Just Tired of the Activist

I have nothing against "gay" people, but there are some who want to smear their sexual desires onto others. I do not feel gay marriages is going to help society, but only degrade it. I was disappointed to hear Elton John visited President Putin in Russia to spread his beliefs about gays. You can't say anything negative about gays or gay activity at Huffington Post or risk account termination. I just can't understand how you can teach children what is acceptable, when you're constantly changing your acceptable rules. I fear Supreme Courts are being paid to "push" gay marriage.

More complex than what most people give credit

What about the next currently-fringe group that gets louder? What if suddenly people want to marry others more closely related than is currently allowed? What about polygamy? Decades ago, the general populace couldn't conceive of allowing same-sex marriage. Now, the general social message is that society OWES it to homosexuals to condone their marriage. Decades from now, will we have people pushing allowing or condoning incestuous relationships?

Please don't misunderstand me as homophobic or hateful. I don't think the issue is nearly as cut and dry as people make it out to be. I do think the push is a bit hasty.

I typically don't favor legislated morality (the war on drugs is a hot topic for me). But why was there marriage to begin with? And why only one man and one woman? I believe marriage was the way it was for the benefit of society since that relationship echoes the sexual relationship that provides for the propagation of society. Maybe since people think we are overpopulated, they figure we don't need to promote family-building relationships. Adoption is not the same thing as procreating - though it is important, too.

Allowing gay marriage but not other fringe groups is just as "bigoted" and "close-minded" as not allowing gay marriage. Unless your stance is to only allow legally condoned relationships that benefit the state. Take the emotion out of the argument, and ask why gay marriage but not polygamy, incest, minors, bestiality, etc.? Why only one fringe group? How do you word the law that doesn't nominally "discriminate" against other groups assumed to be "fringe" or "gross" now.
