Um, I left there in 1971...
I was to the NW a ways of Chillicothe, you're on the edge of the Appalachians there. More or less due south of Columbus. East of Cincinatti (slightly north, too, and slightly south of Dayton in that regard). If I recall it'in the mountains (SE Ohio is a part of the Appalachians that nobody usually realizes is there...) in a river valley.
It's going to be either in town, Columbus, or Dayton/Cincinatti that you'll find "civilization" of sorts.
Sorry I don't know anything about the hi fi stores.
I do know the state troopers love to hand out speeding tickets if you're going 56 mph. So be warned. James J. Rhodes of Kent State fame (he who called in the guard, and then rushed through trials before evidence getting them a "not guilty" verdict) was much in favor of "in control" and the state speed limit has been like that ever since.
Hope you have something to do up there, too. Not sure what you do for a living, but it's not exactly a huge area you're headed to unless it's changed a lot.
Well, I have my music degree to fall back on(I can always teach) but for as long as I can remember, ive used my voice to make living. I am currently a radio man, and hope to continue that when I relocate..radio journalism/news anchoring/etc. but speaking "technically".. I am a professional musician.
it won't seem to much different than NC. stereo shops - that's a laugh. in the fairly large city of cincinnati we have exactly 1 and its not doing so well. you would have better luck in columbus i think. they do have a really good harley shop though. welcome to the neighborhood.
Wow, around here all the radio folks are now computers which makes all the radio stations bland and uninteresting, except for one (Bob Rivers and company are on it in the mornings) around here.
I hope there is some radio talent left out there (meaning in Chillicothe). I've not been there since 1971, though, so I don't know.
Big change!
Best wishes!
What about your tubes and studio and all? I feel bad you have to leave behind something that seems like such a good set up, but life throws those damn curve balls at us!
Goodness gracious!
Have you guys researched and visited this place?
I hear the paper plant stinch is so bad you can't open your windows in the summer!
And the economy is severly depressed! 50% out of jobs and the rest working for half price!
How good can this job be?
Best of luck!
It's the VA.
Dependable employer in a depressed economy should make for a good quality house!
Plus, once Pelosi is done with health care, his wife will be supervising 6 dentists!
This is true.
The same reason my mom stayed in Girard (Oh) until she died. When I asked her she said "all my friends are dead of old age, but I can afford to live here on my own". She went on to say that everyone still in Girard (and Warren, Youngstown, etc) is either "over 70, under 21, or on probation".
Truth be told, its sort of just a way for my wife to get her foot in the VA door(once that happens she can bounce around from system to system until we find a place we enjoy). We do not look at it as any sort of permanent arrangement. If the VA offers a job, you never, ever turn it down. I am probably going to be doing a lot of "Mr. Mom" . I get an army pension(well, not a pension, a disability stipend) so we will be ok. One thing I have learned is that a government salary is a very good thing.
(and im not talking about welfare )
oh, the tubes and the audio gear is coming with .. the "studio" building is owned by a very good friend of mine, a Podiatrist buddy.
Ah, well welcome to the government.
Redneck democrats. With Guns.
He's right about that. They have an attitude as well. They think they know it all.
well hell, ill fit right in. guns and all.
Chillicothe is the town the two guys who opened the hardware store in Deadwood originally met, as I recall.
Yes it is! Well, ive just applied to Ohio State. They have a nice communications program. Ive got a worthless music degree. Might as well make it two.
Changing your name from NC Drawl to Ohio Twang?
Hey, are the Malpass Brothers (gospel/country) from your neck of NC?
They recently came through town with Merle Haggard and were awesome.
Be a bit of a drive to school unless there's a branch locally, though.
yes they are awesome. from Goldsboro,NC.. not far from me at all.
ja about 45 min to an hour.
my wife did it during dental hygeine school...drove to Myrtle Beach every day. about an hour.
It's a different kind of redneck mentality. A Yankee type. Unless, you like to listen to somebody with a 5th grade reading level going on and on about himself every time you run into him. Hell, half of them haven't been laid in years. That's a rare "+" from me on the Darwin Theory of Evolution. In that aspect I wish it was true.
you might need to get one of these:
one thing I wont miss about the south is the damned heat.
ill miss everything else, though. Oh well. Permanence is temporary.
He needs a man?
doesnt everybody..?
