sorry for being stoopid, but what do we do with it?? is it just a discussion place or is there some sort of 'product'? I mean there are a few of these type of things right? (and hooray for that)whatever it's called with the 'petition' to stop the loudness wars etc

seems like there has been some remastering done, but does that mean we have access to them? (BTW, if I got that right that these things have been remastered, well I always had the idea that 'once it's done (compression for example) it's done', there ain't no way back.

Are you able to explain to an idiot how this is different?

I've often thought that there should be a Congress Library for music (you guys in the states have a congressional library yeah? where every book ever published gets a copy sent there?) So the original untouched mastercopy has to be sent to the library, which would enable an audiophile re-release at a later stage without all the 'lost bits'

The last RHCP CD is a perfect example of overly compressed music. The LP which was mastered by Steve Hoffman has a decent dynamic range. It sounds a lot better

JFA was created in the middle of the Death Magnetic controversy to focus discussion and promote the issues involved, but I think it's petered out since then. The site maintainer has been spending most of this time trying to "fix" bad masters with declipping utilities and the like, which I really can't support as having any kind of value whatsoever.

The Pleasurize guys have been more active recently, and have far more industry involvement, and even have their own dynamic range estimator. No forum though.
