When I had an office it was a Tivoli Model One with a Cardas mini-to-mini cable for my 80 gig iPod filled to the brim with Apple lossless files. There were two ferrite clamps on the power cord too. Cubs games sounded fantastic.

In my home office (I work regular hours in the company's office, though), Monsoon flat-panel 2.1 driven off my PC's sound card, with FLAC versions of all my CDs. An ancient copy of MusicMatch Jukebox to play files through the Dolby Headphone DLL, which I did indeed pay for, for my Sennheiser 497s.

I'm considering getting an Emmeline the Predator amp for the dual purpose of cleaning up home-office sound and improving my Sansa player / Etymotic 6i combo on the road.

In my work office, the crappy built-in sound on my notebook computer is piped into a powered 2.1 set so old that - well, it's old. Altec-Lansing. Has to be played rather low. Music is, well, infrequent here. And my boss believes that using headphones proves that you are goofing off. Tolerates speakers. Go figure.

For background I listen to audio streams of various jazz stations across the country with VideoLan VLC media player through my computer soundcard into a Radio Shack Accurian amp and Infinity SM65 loudspeakers. Doesn't sound awful.

I remember working at a call center once... and I was told to not meditate while on the job, between calls. I could sit there for hours and read a book..but I was not allowed to meditate. It looked like I was sleeping, to them.

So I learned how to meditate with my eyes open. Then it was fun to try and shut off the visual centers, a fairly freaky thing to experience...I must say.

So when someone came by my booth, and said, "Hey, whatcha' doin'? Wassup?" Try and imagine the look I would get when telling them.

Update to the answer I posted above:

Now I'm using Lawton Audio's LA7000 headphones, which are modded Denon D7000s, with custom cups (mine are African Sepele Mahogany wood cups, which I'm told are pretty rare to come across for these cups), Jena cables, Furutech plugs.

And amping with Woo Audio 2 single-ended OTL tube amp.

Source is the same: iMod 5.5G 80GB with Portable VCap.

Loving the combo...

I remember that it took me at least a month to be able to observe my own breathing, sort of an early step to being able to try meditation. If someone asked me what I was doing, I could honestly reply, "Breathing."
