Is there a way to record SACD to a computer at 96kHz and 24 bits?

I have a MacPro, with Optical TOSLINK IN, that could be feed with a TOSLINK OUT of a OPPO DV-981HD... but then what? How could I record it?
Would ITunes be able to play 96kHz and 24 bits?

To do that on your Mac I'd imagine you'd need to instal additional software but the question is would that work under iTunes or not. I don't know but suggest the people to ask are on the iTunes section of :- http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa

You need even more as you cannot get SACD (DSD) from any TOSlink output that I know of. Even the Oppos will not output full SACD signals (as DSD or PCM) except from the HDMI outputs (at least, not without some questionably legal modifications).

That is NOT what I infer from the article "John Marks wrote about the Oppo in June 2007 (Vol.30 No.6):" / "Oppo DV-970HD universal player "

Kal,

If a external DAC, like the Grace m902, can interpret what ever signal is coming from the Oppo, why not the MacPro?
Then it could be recorder with Garage Band or similar?

um...you get a program like logic, garage band, pro tools, etc..and capture the output..but there is no way to capture a "DSD" stream.

My main point is that the Oppo cannot output a full resolution DSD or PCM signal.

Charles Hanson of Ayre mentioned, in another forum, that Sony made sure DSD would never be running around in a computer. Not sure if computer couldn't handle the signal or the signal would ever be in the open.
thanks

At the moment, the best you can do is do a D>A>D stage, Which, given a good SACD player and a good 24 bit A>D converter is certainly possible.

there are DAW programs that can process DSD natively(Pyramix, Sadie, Sonoma), but no hardware that will output the raw DSD stream.
