From my understanding Vandersteen recommends bi-wiring. The 2Ce receives the same treatment as the 3A: http://www.vandersteen.com/pages/Pdffiles/Model%203A.pdf

Try this experiment.

  • After discussing your intentions with you local audio emporium and optaining their agreement that you can return one of the cable sets after purchase, purchase 2 sets of identical cables.
  • Wire the speakers using both sets of cables as described in the user manual.
  • Critically listen to your favorite music paying close attention to frequency response, soundstaging, detail, harmonic texture, etc.
  • After powering down the amp, disconnect one of the speaker cables from each speaker and amp and install the shorting plates.
  • Without changing the volume level, repeat the listening tests using the same content and same criteria.
  • If you decide that the resulting sound is identical, return the extra cables. If bi-wire sounds better, re-install the extra cables.
  • Post your results to this thread.

Welcome to the wonderful world of audiophilia!

The ability to try this will also depend on which period Model 2 he has. The newer Vandersteens have terminal-strip binding posts, but, older models have two pairs of 4mm female banana jacks.

Hi , I think u must have a set of these. i have the older model with the female inputs. Is there a special bridge i can buy? I am using these in my garage. Not critical listening!!! so i would rather not spend extra money on new cables. Thanks, Mike.

You don't have to Bi-Wire but if your choose not to, you DO have to use some sort of jumper plates/wires or else your signal will only go to half your drivers. It's not a high output thing, it's more a cross-over thing.

A pair of these are typically used for each speaker:

You simply strip enough insulation so that the wire is long enough to run through both posts.
