theres a whole lot of meaning in that statement.
Quote:The Ultimate Ears Triple.fi 10 Pro Earphones arrived today. They are larger than any in ear phones I have tried BUT, they are the first that have rivaled my normal system speakers for sound. The smallest rubber seems to work for me, so...so far I am happy. Of course, I got them for $175 new when the list is $399 so that helps as well.
Is there a typical decibel level you tend to listen at?
I'm an open-headphone guy, I wonder if our listening volumes may change with different styles of headphones. With isolation like those seem to offer you, it may make for a wealth of detail at lower than usual volumes.
I like the idea of sound isolating phones, I'd be curious to see if your listening volume varies from your 'speaker listening' volume!
Yes, I worry about the tendency of headphone listeners to lose hearing over time so I listen to headphones/earpieces at a lower level than I listen to my normal system and I do not listen to that at high volume. Of course my speakers are 88db efficiency and the amp only puts out 38 watts max so really loud has never been in my program. My TV is normally louder.
Something else, when I run the headphones directly from my benchmark DAC, I get far better sound than any other set of phones I have ever owned.

The Orpheus systems were originally sold as numbered pairs of amps and headphones, so I am fairly sure that splitting a system would diminish its value. However the seller could still have sold the second pair of headphones separately and might well have made more that way.

Happy to say there are still bargains to be had. A friend of mine bought an Orpheus earlier today for equiv $8,650! I inspected the unit myself and it was in pretty nice condition. There appeared to be a problem with it as it wouldn't come out of warm-up mode but reseating the valves did the trick. I can well imagine the size of the smile on his face. Not much sleep for him tonight!
