I know someone from New Zealand who has this issue with 'then' and 'than' (not sure about 'sex' and six', though...)
"No," she said, "your brain is weird."
I know what you mean, Monty. I once saw a great map of the US that charted the soda, pop, and coke dialectsas well as the hero, grinder, and sub regions. And when I was moving from NM to CT, after a drive through an ice storm, I stopped at an NJ HoJos and orderd a much needed scotch and soda as a restorative. To my distress," I was served a vile brown concoction. ""What's this?"" I asked my waitron. ""Scotch and soda"," she replied. What kind of soda?""""Scotch and Coke"," she said. As patiently as I could, I explained the ingredients of a Scotch and soda. She rolled her eyes and brought me: !) a glass od Scotch and 2) a bottle of Perrier. I guess NJ is solidly in the soda-speaking region.
