I allus figgered a pink floyd was something you dusted the house with.
I've already totally blogged myself out today, but here's this poem that I just found, and fell in love with.
Is it okay to fall in love with a poem that you've only just met?
Yes, I think it's okay.
The poem is by David Berman of the Silver Jews. I found it while looking for an answer to Jim Tavegia's question, "Just exactly how challenged are we when we name music groups Silver Jews?"
"Silver Jews" never struck me as a particularly strange, or uninspired, band name and I think Jim was only half-serious but I figured I'd try to find a good answer for him anyway. Jim goes on to cite his age (58) as a possible reason for not being able to relate. But band names, it seems to me, have often been pretty odd. I mean, what the heck is a Pink Floyd?
In any case, I didn't find a good answer for Jim, but I did find a poem.
Love you,
Stephen
Come in here, dear boy, have a cigar
You're gonna go far
You're gonna fly high
You're never gonna die
You're gonna make it if you try
They're gonna love you
Well I've always had a deep respect
And I mean that most sincerely
The band is just fantastic
that is really what I think
Oh by the way, which one's Pink?Pink Floyd," ""Have a Cigar""
Stephen, do not fret," I occasionally have been acused of having a dry sense of humor I at my advanced age do enjoy your writing. I am just beginning to feel like I'm ""dial-up"" in a DSL world. Yes", groups in my era right after going from gas lights to electricity (LOL) were just as bizzarely named. My home town of Aurora, IL was one of the first cities to have gas lights. Group names: The Beatles? The Who? I can almost hear Abbot and Costello: Who? He's on first! Jefferson Airplane? Grand Funk Railroad? ZZ Top? Crazy Horse? Mad Cow? Sorry, that is something else. I just had a senior moment! Feel free to add to the list. And it will continue until the end of time. Keep'em commin', I'll catch up sooner or later.
