Hi Jay.
It was great spending a bit of time with you at HE06. Yours was one of my very favorite rooms, where I simply enjoyed myself. Thank you.

Up until last week, I'd been listening at home through the Ayre AX-7e and CX-7e integrated and player. Now that I've got a big empty space in my living room, I've been thinking about what I'd like to hear next. With the Show still fresh in my mind, I'm very much interested in listening to the Exposure 2010S system at home.

Would it be possible to arrange a loan? I'll share my thoughts on the gear at the blog.

Please let me know what you think. By the way, I've currently got the DeVore Fidelity Gibbon 3s and Totem Arros on hand.

Thanks very much.
Stephen

Hi Stephen.

Yes, I will get some gear for you. Would you be willing to try the Exposure 3010 series? It's a little more money ($2,450 for the CD player and $2,050 for the 100W integrated amp), but still very good value.

What was the retail price of the Ayre gear?

Regards,

Hi Jay.
Thanks for getting back to me.

Each Ayre piece retails for about $3000.

I'm actually more interested in hearing the entry-level Exposure gear. I want to listen to less expensive gear. I want to bring down the cost of my overall system, substantially, and try to connect with a different audience.

And you can feel certain that I'm not interested in comparing the Exposure stuff to the Ayre stuff. Not in a typical sense, at least. I'm looking for a sound that moves me.

Let me know what you think. Thanks again.
Stephen

Hi Stephen.

Ok, I hear you. I completely understand what you are after as I feel the same way myself, and literally spent four years seeking a $5,000 or less system. $5k is still more than what 98% of people would ever dream of spending on a stereo, and we should be able to knock their socks off at $5k.

I am now experimenting with Exposure's own cable, it is quite inexpensive and, I think, just fine. I'm using it with Exposure's Classic gear and Neat's higher-end Elite SE speaker. It seems to not be letting down this higher system so I will probably package it with 2010S to achieve the ideal price. (I think it is impedance matched with Exposure which is why we get such a good result in that system for so little money.)

I need a bit of time to organize a 2010S set for you, but I'll do my best.
Jay

Hi Jay.
Thanks for understanding. I'm very excited about getting the chance to listen to the 2010 gear at home. And I'm also very interested in trying out the cables. Funny you mention system synergy because I just yesterday read your essay on designing the "ultimate system," and found it encouraging.

Take as much time as you need to put the system together for me. I appreciate it.

In the meantime, would it be alright with you if I published this entire e-mail exchange in the blog? I've made it a custom to share with readers the inner-workings of these transactions — I think it's entertaining and informative — and I know there are a few readers who are curious about what gear I'll have next.

Please let me know. Thanks again.
Stephen
