Focal's Daniel Jacques

The Focal Electra 1037 Be that was reviewed by Michael Fremer a while back has been superseded by the Electra 1038 Be II ($13,500/pair). The major change is the upgrading of the beryllium tweeter to the level of the units used in the Utopia series. There is also the inevitable crossover change, and the manufacturing of the midrange and woofer drivers has been made more precise. Here's Daniel Jacques of Audio Plus/Plurison, the North American Focal importer, with the Electra 1038 Be II.

How much? It's physically impossible for these to have any sound that is able to justify the price. With that amound of money, there are speakers that are made with actual drives to move air, could this be a typo? Maybe $1,300? Right? I heard Focal loudspeakers some while ago, and they where truly lousy, and they where some very expensive $40,00 model, I seem to recall. How do they justify their prices?

Very surprised by your comment. Just heard the grand Utopia III last week and they are by far the most impressive speaker I have ever heard. They put an extremely optimized Wilson Audio high end system to shame...I don't know about the 1038be as I have not heard it myself, but it has gotten outstanding reviews so far. You work for a competitor, don't you? :-)Cheers,ab
