The Home Entertainment Show 2006, running June 1–4 at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel in Los Angeles, is only weeks away. Here is a sampling of some of the giveaways and special events that will take place at the Show. Several of these should be of particular interest to home-theater enthusiasts.

Ladies' Day

Creating Rooms of Magic. The ELF Foundation is a 501(c3) nonprofit charity that brings the enchantment of uplifting music and film to sick children around the country by building state-of-the-art home-theater systems in children's hospitals. Record-Pressing Plant and Mastering Facility Tour
Acoustic Sounds presents a tour of the RTI/AcousTech record-pressing plant. This four-hour off-site tour will take attendees to the RTI record-pressing plant to see vinyl in action, as well as to the AcousTech recordmastering facility! The tour is free; maps are available at registration, or you can take the bus. The bus will leave at 6pm sharp on Friday, June 2, from HE2006 registration. Is the listening space the final frontier of great sound? Join members of the Acoustic Guild and industry experts in acoustics to hear what a difference acoustic treatments can make in your home. Two rooms will be set up with identical duplicate systems; the only difference will be that one will be acoustically treated, one not. See if you can hear the difference. Ask the hard questions. Debate the experts.

Hewlett-Packard Presents Digital Photography Workshops
Two great days of hands-on seminars are being held at the Show on Saturday and Sunday, June 3–4, in the Hermosa Room. Your ticket also gets you into the Home Entertainment 2006 Show.

Day One: Digital Cameras Made Easy
This day-long lecture-seminar will open the door to all aspects of digital photography, from camera to finished print, including how to easily and effectively manipulate digital photographs on your computer. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from the pros.

Day Two: The Digital Darkroom
In this day-long seminar on the digital darkroom, you will learn to work with digital photographs or digital scans of existing film images to enhance, manage, color-correct, and print your images. This seminar covers, in depth, aspects of digital imaging that you will need to know to make the most of your photographs once they are in your computer.

Advance registration for the Digital Photography Workshops is recommended. Cost is $80 per day, which includes admission to HE2006.
