Drenched in sweat thanks to the charming weather here in New York—Oh wait, I forgot, I promised only to bitch about one season which would be winter so let me say I love summer and begin again.

Last night I saw Don Byron and his quartet at the Jazz Standard. Old friend Don Lucoff joined me. Classy room. Great BBQ. Nine-dollar vodka tonics. Welcome to NYC.

Byron is such a creative guy. A clarinetist prone to move in almost any direction creatively, he and I sat and talked for a couple of hours earlier in the day. Very smart cat. Not at all combative or hard to get along with, the two things you usually hear associated with his name. You can read the results of our chat next month, October, in Stereophile.
