Hi jblaze, I'm not familiar with the Focals, tho' they're highly touted in some circles. I did have experience with a small room of similar dimensions. I had a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 7.2's bookshelf speakers- on stands. Because they were rear ported, bass could be reinforced considerably by moving them closer to the walls/corners of the room. They were capable of stupid bass (in both senses of the word) for such small speakers, but I moved them into the room for better balance. Too large speakers are usually not recommended in such small rooms, but are nice to have if you move to larger digs. So if you like lots of bass, you could look for a pair of rear-ported jobs (the Wharfs are usually available on eBay for cheap and are quite tuneful- and loud)or consider a small subwoofer (but they take up floor space, too) with the smaller Focals. Good luck.
Thanks rvance, I appreciate your input in giving me some perspective. Hearing your story really makes me lean towards the bookshelf speakers. I think I will consider a subwoofer....Thanks for the info!
