Is the noise common to both channels?
When I read the sounds you mention, my first thought was of a mistracking cartridge.
When you set up your cartridge, did you use an alignment and tracking force devices?
This may be a simple fix.
As Joe, mentions, give us the boring details, too!
Plus, when was the last time you replaced the stylus ?
Thanks for the input,
some more information for you: it only occurs with the turntable, the other channels are fine [cd, tv etc]. I didn't align the cartridge/needle with any precision, i just fixed it by hand. The needle and cartridge are brand new.
If you need me to tell you more, you'll have to be specific...i'm new to this world.
Thanks again.
Michael.
Hi again
I am sorry but my English is not that good to be able to explain what to do and how to align your cartridge. The only advise i can give you is stop playing any records till someone else tell you what to do.If you keep playing your records, you'll ruin them beyond repair !
Yiangos is right, stop playing records until you deal with the turntable/cartridge problem. Unless there is some drag on the arm, the problem is almost certainly cartridge alignment. Either way, continued playing will damage the records and may not help that new stylus either.
You say the cartridge and the stylus are both new. Unless you bought them by mail, your best first source for advice and perhaps for direct assistance is to go back where you bought them and describe your problem. Cartridge set-up is usually a bit much for a beginner. It takes not only some experience, but some tools that you probably don't have. Most sellers of analog equipment are willing and able to provide set-up services.
Good Luck,
Cool, problem figured out.
I'll go and look for a web link that might be helpful, but Cheapskate is right, time for some assitance in person.
Where do you live? Maybe an audiophile is close by!
Here's some useful websites:

good luck!
thanks for the websites..i'll have a look now
The information below is where you can get a stylus protractor to align cartridges. I got this from www.enjoy the music.com .
This protractor tool is used for your vinyl turntable to insure proper alignment of the cartridge on your tonearm. This version is printed on a high quality cardboard sheet 4 inches wide by 7 inches long (DL or a C5 envelope for my European and overseas friends). All i ask is that you send your request with a self addressed stamped envelope inside that will fit the protractor to the dude nearest to you. Below is the listing of the locations where it is available for free:
