Death to cable and replaced by HDTV and fiber optics!

I'd like a single format for listening, recording, and traveling. It would have to be high quality (not compressed) and reasonably priced. Now thats not too much to ask for, IS IT?

Myslef~ A high end CD changer. The Industry~ The combination of SACD and DVD-A, and it's success.

I want a portable system that "hears" the song in my head and plays it back in the personal space surrounding me as I stand, sit, recline, or move. It should manufacture the sound, rather than just play it back, and would generate true instrumentals and vocals, not synthesize them. The system will be small enough to fit in a pocket, sturdy enough to last a lifetime, and be powered by my's body energy so I can lose weight by listening, or alternatively, I would need to eat a power lunch to crank up the volume. How's that for a fantasy?

My wish? To have my next components delivered and installed by Tyra Banks. Yipee!

I'd like to see universal disc players that will play any disc or new format with dedicated digital outs at FULL resolution. That's really not too much to ask. Maybe someday . . .

My wish? Hit the jackpot, then: 1) move to a large house with five bedrooms; 2) customize large living room into dedicated listening room; 3) install a mechanized projection TV system with a retractable screen; 4) line the walls with maple CD shelves and book shelves; 5) customize the power system in the house; 6) buy the Infinity IRS V and Apogee Full Range; and 7) buy the larget Pass power amps, etc . And oh yeah, install a high security house alarm system with motion detector. Heck, for that matter, I should just hire an audio consultant and have him get me everything! He can bill me, too !

I'd wish for the time, the energy, and the money to see live performances of great musicians on a regular basis.

My modest wish? (1) An unexpected surge of momentum for SACD and/or DVD-A, so that one or both of these formats would have a chance of success. (2) No business failures of major or otherwise worthwhile high-end companies.

My ultimate audiophile dream for 2001 would be to make the development and application of nanotechnology arrive fully, so that everyone who wanted it could have state of the art audio gear (i.e., as good as human ears could ever need), and all LPs and digital discs or other source objects would be manufactured perfectly, and any imperfect but endearing old audio gear could be replicated exactly, and every musician would have an instrument of Stradivarius quality, and there would be enough macroeconomic ease so nearly everyone who wanted to be a musician could be one, and every audio nut would have plenty of time to listen to both live and recorded music, and . . .

create an affordable CRT projector with a dialable line scanner / The dialable scanner would be able to double, triple, or quadruple the line of resolution or increments between doubling and tripling.

I'd like to get rid of 2/3 of the speaker manufacturers. Then maybe the remaining ones could get a decent sales volume. Something's got to be done to get the prices down.

SACD mega-changer with digital output for DSD bitstream. And of course, a DAC that has a DSD bitstream input.

My wish? DVD, DVD-Audio, SACD, CD and DVD Video Progressive Scan in one universal player for $650. I really don't think that this will be all that unreasonable towards the end of the year.

I'd like to enlarge my listening room and purchase a pair of Vandersteen 5s. Those two elements are the only two I'd want to change right now.

make audio dealers realize they may actually sell more equipment in a more realistic presentation of the product very few people have neither the space or financial means for a dedicated perfectly acoustic listening room thats my industry wish on a personnal note I hope to find the perfect speaker

SACD is chosen as the future digital format. All record companies start to issue music on dual layer (SACD + CD) discs.

Listenable, affordable, digital audio has to sound natural, unforced, and limpid, so that I can start listening to new music with pleasue, instead of a digital headache.

I would like to purchase my dream system consisting of vtl wotans, genesis 1's, wadia digital, and basis debut.

I'd wish for someone to slap around the hi-rez cartels and get things properly underway

An audio magazine that does real comparison testing, both subjective and objective.

My audiophile wishes? 1)Cheap, re-recordable, HiDef DVDs. 2) More digital speakers, a la Meridian.

I'd wish for a universal, high quality, digital disc player which can handle DVD, CD,CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-A, SACD, etc., at an approximate $1500 price level.

Let's get one set of standards for SACD and DVD Audio. We don't need both. Choose one and let's move forward.

An all-in-one digital amplifier with a computer. This would be located in a central location in the house away from the music room. All the music would be recorded on a bank of hard drives. The signal would be transmitted to the speakers in digital format to eliminate cable problems. A microphone would be to placed at the listener's sitting position. The computer would calculate flat frequency response based on room reflections and adjust the signal accordingly. If I didn't like the flat reponse, the computer could adjust the response to reflect the sound qualities of my favorite place. Musical heaven.

That this latest batch of "purists" -- this time rushing to SACD instead of tubes and vinyl -- get over themselves. It's DVD-A now and it's going to BE DVD-A. Sony just doesn't have follow-through when it comes to format development and this time (unlike with Beta), they simply don't have the clearly superior product.

Tim Bishop's picture

A audio standard for high res digital, that everyone would love, and everyone would produce.
