I would like to see revievs on the complete systems, i.e. source, pre-amp, amp, speakers, and cables. I think it would better to know how a complete system reproduces the music than reading a review about a single component and hoping it will fit into my system.

The new preamp by AR, C-J, or anybody else with a phono stage, remote volume, performance of top-of-the-line units, and costing under $1500.

Are we limited to ONE selection? If so, please review ONE system comprising the following components: Rotel 991 CD player, Dynaudio Contour 1.8 Mk.2 loudspeakers or Totem Forest loudspeakers, McCormack DNA-225 amplifier or Plinius 8150i integrated amplifier, Harmonic Technology interconnects and cables or Kimber Select interconnects and cables, and a REL Storm III subwoofer. Hope that's not cheating! :)

I'd like to see more music reviews. Ten years ago, Stereophile did a much better job of balancing equipment and music reviews in its pages than it does today. Music is, or should be, the reason that we all got involved in this crazy and wonderful hobby. Helping your readers find the best recorded music is an important part of your mission, and it's a part that's in need of improvement.

Actual cutting edge products. These are products that develop or seriously ratify sound technology. Also products that can produce sound quality on par with equipment many times greater. Frankly, what matters is how it sounds, not how it looks, or the expense of the product.

I have more than 1000 CDs and the idea of the new CD players with upsampling, and upsampling devices, sounds great to me. What you think, folks?

Ideally, I would like to see you do reviews the way a lot of the car mags do. That is, have a head-to-head comparison test of 6, 8, or 10 comparably priced pieces of equipment. The nature of your business being what it is, that sort of test possibility might come along once every 20 years. Here is a good alternative. In a review of a piece of equipment, include in an easily repeatable format comparable comments on sonic observations and specs for all of the equipment that is currently available and costs no more than 50% above that of the piece of gear being tested—and, of course, for which you have test results. If there are any other pieces of equipment available that you have not tested but that, for one reason or another, you feel might compare favorably with the current equipment under test, then mention them with proper qualification as to why they are being mentioned in the test. If this was done, we folks out here in reader land with less than perfect memories or who very well might not have read all of the assorted tests and comments in the various columns for the last 5 or 10 years of Stereophile, could reliably get a good picture of how you think that new hot piece of gear that sends you to the moon might stack up against other options for our scarce equipment dollars.

The MartinLogan Statement Evolution 2. I have read some smaller reviews, but I would like to hear what the writers at Stereophile think about them.

More entry-level manufacturers/products. Perhaps Stereophile should start a "Century Club" review section in which they review products going for around $1000. Reading about the Dunlavy in last month's issue was entertaining, but how many readers can afford to go out and drop $85,000 on a pair of speakers? Actually, those who CAN and are WILLING to spend this much money on speakers don't pay much attention to the magazine. I don't mean to offend anyone, but the general consensus regarding Stereophile by those who KNOW audio is that it is nothing more than an advertising rag that gives good reviews to products whose manufacturers have purchased an expensive full-page ad.

Components in the $2000-$4000 range. Yes, that is expensive to many audiophiles, but still reachable. If discretionary income is reallocated, quite a few more audiophiles may be able to shop at this level than they might have thought. Going up to this level really does make a difference!

I'd like to see you expand your music reviews to cover a small number of concerts, whether they be classical, jazz, rock/pop, whatever. While your readers know that you attend live concerts, it would be interesting if such reviews accompanied your product reviews, so that the frame of reference for your product reviews is always apparent, and not merely implied.
