Absolutely should be the Wilson Watt/Puppy 6. An incredible speaker at any price.

Sacd and dvd audio it is the future.

My vote would have to go to the new Sony SCD-1 SACD player. The player is absolutely wonderful. SACD is the "truth."

Magnepan 3.6R. With the improvements made to the bass, these are a steal. Plus, these guys have been making great speakers for years; it's time they got some of the spotlight.

Evett & Shaw Pesaro. It is the first licensed DiAural loudpeaker on the market. This is a technology that will shift the paradigm of speaker design forever.

Sony SCD-1. . . I actually drooled reading the review last week! I'll have to wait a while to get one, but believe me, I will . . .

Hands down, it has to be the Sony SCD1.

The Von Schweikert VR4 Gen speaker. Even though VR has disappeared due to a tragic flood, this should not deter us from recognizing Albert Von Schweikert's achievement. Building on the legendary (but often unreviewed) VR4, AVS crafted a speaker that outclassed well-regarded units double its price. I know, I listened to plenty before buying my Gens, and have never regretted my decision. Their soundstaging, clarity, and extension are still benchmarks for a $4000 speaker system.

McIntosh Labs MC2000. It is unlike any other receiver that I have ever listened to, whether it be clarity or power. It's truly amazing.

I think the launch of commercial DSD/SACD products is the most significant step in digital audio in many years, and thus deserves a nomination as "Technology of the Year."

Wadia Power DAC. Absolutely groundbreaking. Solid-state (if you can call it that) will never be the same.

Really not a fair question, given the amount of "new" equipment a typical audiophile gets their hands on per year. Still, I'll nominate the MSB LinkDAC. For a pittance, it's made the most pronounced difference in my system this year. A true high-end bargain.

McIntosh MC2000. What a way to end the century!

Sonus Faber Amati Homage. This is the speaker that satisfies my audiophile and music-loving cravings. It makes me forget about the system and draws me into the music.

Revel Ultima Studio speaker. Why? Duh! Although you guys haven't even reviewed it, so it wouldn't even get an honorable mention anyway. Oh well. :-(

I don't think there was any best audio product released in 1999. All the A/V dealers had a bad year because of the lack any new audio products in the market. Panasonic/Technics were planning to ship DVD-Audio players some time in October, just in time for the holiday season, but that never happended. So I think it was a bad year in terms of "best audio product."
