I can't afford speakers so I have to build them like many other poor audiophiles. However, my speakers use Focal and Dynaudio drivers, Solen Caps, and Goertz chokes (apparently as do the big dogs) if that means anything. Unfortunately as the ears mature, we yearn for better. With some test equipment and good computer software, I have been able to build speakers sounding at least as good as what I hear in most stereo shops. I currently can't think of any speaker I would actually buy at any price.

Magnapans 12's nothing beats the sound of a good magnaplanar speaker and at around $1000 they are a steal!

LS3/5a - Midrange accuracy (only speaker I've heard that can reproduce a cymbal that doesn't sound like sandpaper!)

martin logan request with appropriate equipment-it sounds great, and I listen as often as I can. Also, I have come to appreciate quality CDs such as Ref. Rec. and some of the quality CD recordings.

Martin-Logan Sequel II Bass a little loose, otherwise great

Snell E5 towers, great speaker for the budget audiophile

Paradigm reference (main and centre) Paradigm (subwoofer) Boston accoustics (surround) If nothing else, my speakers have to be the highest quality available. I can compromise on certain components but not my speakers

Diapason Adamantes III They are a great small monitor set Unbelievable sound from such a small set.

I have become a Thiel convert with 2.3's for my mains and .5's for the rear. Center is the SCS 3. Accuracy transperency and flat response were my main factors the decision. I am completely satisfied. Oh yes, don't forget about the Sunfire sub for home theater!

Celestion DL10 for front with audio & movies which I find excellent and think would be hard to replace B&K CC6 for center - love it JBL Cinema 5 for surrounds - hate them - soon to be replaced with Paradigm Mini Monitors

I currently listen to Audio Physic Step SLE's. I've got a medium sized room, love the low level detail, articulation and imaging. Plan to add a subwoofer later.

I listen to speakers that I designed and built. Are they the last word in speakers? No but for the pittance I shelled out to make them, they outperform speakers that cost five times the amount. Plus, I can say that I made them.

I have a new pair of Snell XA 75ps. Still breaking them in but they sound amazing. I no longer need my THX sub.

The B&W Nautilus 801's are awesome, to my ears, with Mark Levinson electronics. These things aren't cheap and it took a long time to get here, but it's been worth the struggle. There are surely better systems, but nothing I ever heard even comes close to the stunning impact of this ensemble.

NHT 2.9's almost as good as 3.3's! when are you going to review them?

Dynaudio Contour 1.3 MKII... sounded better than various B&W's

Totem Acoustic Model 1s--- Lucid? Hell, these little things sound REAL!

Legacy Audio Classics---I love them! After narrowing the field through recommendations and reviews, I auditioned 6 similar speakers. For value and accuracy, the Legacys came out well ahead.

Thiel CS2 2's: excellent overall coherence, flat frequency response and excellent soundstaging make this, for the money, a wonderful speaker. Weaknesses: I wish it would play a LITTLE louder.

I have the Meadowlark Kestrel Hot Rods and they are superb speakers in all areas.

Dynaudio - Facette - elegant look and good sound

I own a pair of B&W CDM1 SE's with stands and a REL Acoustics Q100E subwoofer, which I may add, made Stereophile's list of recommended components, and are a steal at less than $2500 for both. Let's just say I'm in love.

NHT 2.9's - Wonderful full range speaker, very accurate. If the recording stinks these speakers are not forgiving. On good recordings they sing.
