Wharfedale's Diamond Series

A look inside the beautiful Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 ($350/pair), a bass-reflex design with a soft-dome tweeter and Kevlar mid-woofer. The cabinet, which measures about 11.75" H by 7.5" W by 10.75" D, is gracefully curved, widening at the center and tapering toward the rear, to both minimize internal standing waves and enhance the speaker’s fine appearance, while the speaker’s front baffle sports a fine piano black lacquer. I’ve been using the Diamond 10.1 in my home system for the last couple of months and have been most impressed by its low-level resolution and coherent overall sound. I will discuss my experience with the Diamond 10.1 in the February and March 2011 issues of Stereophile.

Meanwhile, playing in the room were the Diamond 10.7 floorstanders ($1299), which utilize a 1” tweeter, 2” midrange unit, and two 6.5” woofers. A Musical Fidelity M3CD CD player and M6i integrated amplifier and Transparent cables completed the system. Every bit as beautiful as the smaller 10.1, the 10.7 had the same sort of top-to-bottom ease and control, while offering a firmer, heavier grip on the bottom end.

Looks like excellent design and build quality for the price. Look forward to your review. If it sounds half as good as it looks I'd say a contender for budget product of the year!
