I suppose I should also include that in total I'd like to keep my entire system under $1000 (including speakers). Any advice?

Lets see, good bass handling, high power, audiophile quality system by day and an impressive party system by night.

The only advice I can think of is to increase your budget. For a really affordable system, you usually need to compromise on something. bass, volume, or sound quality, what's your choice?.

Usually it takes a lot of money to have it all. You can try to find the best system balance in all areas by careful selection of components that don't exceed a system price limit, but it works much better if you consider all the components together as a whole, not just one peice at a time, and there's a bit of an art to it.

My advice is to field your question to Audiokarma, since you're a fan of vintage stuff. I don't see why something like a 2285B, which is known to be a great vintage amp for rock & bass, wouldn't be what you're looking for, and within the budget you've got. Given the budget and the stuff you're playing, Id say your best bet is used vintage, and the guys at AK can help you with that.

denydog is on the right track. Truly deep great bass is perhaps the most expensive thing to obtain. Many times one can reduce a systems cost by half (no exaggeration) by accepting slightly less bass while not giving up ANY purity or neutrality in the midrange or the high frequencies.

Giving up deep bass won't be as difficult as it sounds as both hip-hop and and most dance music don't really have deep bass in reality, but LOTS of mid bass. Actual deep bass is usually only present in large orchestral works, jazz with double bass, or works for organ.

When speaking of "deep bass" are we talking of low frequency of the dB level or the bass that is present?

Showing my lack of knowledge here but I always thought that any under, say, 25 Hz was considered "deep bass".

I always recommend choosing the speakers first because to a certain extent that dictates what electronics would be appropriate. Choosing the electronics before the speakers when building a system from scratch is like letting the tail wag the dog.

My point about bass is to not confuse prominent mid-bass for deep bass. Deep bass done properly is expensive both from the point of amplification and speakers. When talking about deep bass I'm thinking of bass that is 35Hz and below. Mid bass is relatively easy by comparison.

Why not consider getting a powered subwoofer? Because of the limited range of the bass the amps in powered subwoofers are often class D and capable of high power output with very reasonable specifications. There are several different ways that a subwoofer can be connected and any and all these connections allow for the use any two channel power amp, integrated amp or receiver to power the main speakers.

Another benefit to a subwoofer system is that you then up a nice pair of bookshelf speakers without having to worry about their lack bass.

I have an Energy Microstar 12.1 subwoofer, which has a built-in 1500 watt amp, a variable low pass filter, high level (speaker level) and low level (line level) inputs and variable phase, and the thing rocks. there are many other very good powered subwoofers on the market so perhaps some of the other forum can also recommend subwoofers you may want to consider.
