No 3.5mm jacks on phones any more. New phones with super hi-res and internal DACs. OK. My new Galaxy s23+ for example - with its great audio specs and an internal DAC, I figure I don't need an external DAC to hear the hi-res audio of the phone on my Beyer Dynamics low impedance phones. Or, I do.
I have been trying to find answers about what I need to hear the 24/192 tracks actually reaching my ears in their full resolution (cynics aside, those specs make a difference for my listening experience). The issue here is the USB-C port being used for audio. The answer from most experts is, "good luck" and "this is understandably confusing to most everyone."
Apparently the USB-C port does not deliver the internal DAC audio in hi-res. Therefore, an external DAC is needed even though the phone has an internal one. This doesn't make sense, but without the 3.5mm jack, it is the case.
Then, this: USB-C 3.2? Audio Class 3.0 needed for the USB-C port to deliver hi-res? Galaxy s23+ detail specs only say it is USB Type-C 3.2, OTG. No mention of audio class. Are there USB-C to 3.5mm adaptor cables which carry hi-res up to 24/192 other than Samsung, which is universally panned as cheaply made? Before I call Samsung support and get thoroughly frustrated by their lack of knowledge about their product, can anyone help me out here?
Many thanks!
