There is no "right" answer from us. It's up to you to decide what qualities each table has that would meet your priorities. In general I would say buy the hifi deck since it's more likely to do well in a hifi.

Just get something in the sub-$500 range to fill the void until you buy your hi-end deck a few months down the road. Since you plan to go to a good, audiophile turntable, then I'd suggest starting with an audio oriented table.

Mean while, hang around here and search through the forum. There have been some excellent adventures documented by members and moderators taking their first and second steps into vinyl. Taking a few months to survey the situation before you plunk down the large.

I love a guy that looks forward.

Thanks for the input. I am still leaning towards purchasing a Technic 1200 since I can use it for DJ purposes / other music projects in the future etc. I just feel like buying an entry level deck will be a waste especially since I wont be buying a super nice cartridge for it and dont have a phonostage or phono pre to plug into first. I just think the Technic will be a much more contained solution until i can put together some more components and get a better deck with a nice cart.

I cannot recall a time being as torn and as indecisive as I am right now, and really appreciate the feedback. Wish I would have gotten more opinions though. You are exactly right about Looking forward, I wont just buy something without thinking ahead quite a bit.

If you're going to buy the Scout or something in the future, I don't think there is a "bad" decision here. If you know you'll want the DJ turntable eventually, go ahead and get it. Either way, you will learn a lot and you'll be able to tell a huge difference when you upgrade. You'll probably be able to appreciate the difference between the Technics and the VPI the most since they are so different (direct drive vs. belt, etc.).

Just pull the trigger and try to keep the second guessing to a minimum. The only thing you don't want to do is buy something that will ruin your records. As long as either of them have a working cartridge (i.e. one that is not bent or worn) you'll be fine.

That said, I would personally go for the hifi table, but I would never use the DJ turntable so that is just me.

Hey, Kyledbyron, welcome!

It sounds like an easy decision to me. In a few months you will be getting a cool Hi FI deck, so for now, go with the Technics and see what you think.

Look for used ones, too. They show up on Craig's List every stinkin' day!

Then go to KAB and look at all the mods they offer!

There is much fun to be had with a 1200 these days.

Also, watch you cartridge choice. Typical DJ cartridges may miss some of the finer points of the music.

Best wishes!
