Never been in a band myself, but many of my friends have.

Funny-and sad in a funny way-- but so true!

I knew this band from DC (Velocity Girl- all good people and very talented), and if it didn't occur to the guys in it before, when Sarah Shannon got voted in Spin magazine as "the girl indie fans most wanted to see naked", they knew then.

(I count Velocity Girl as one of the bands that changed my life! It happened one summer in Puerto Rico. I was 17, and had been listening to lots of Top 40 radio, hip-hop, that sort of stuff. Over lots of alcohol and other things, my cousins introduced me to Velocity Girl, Dinosaur Jr., the Pixies, Mercury Rev, Mudhoney, Violent Femmes, and Sonic Youth. That was it for me.)

I took a friend to see the Violent Femmes back in 1981 or so.

He never got over the fact that they were so low on Femmes.

Later in life: One of my wife's favorite groups.

Well, the girl in #& reminds me too much of Zal Cleminson from The Senational Alex Harvey Band.

Number 8 is trying too hard to be Kim Gordon. Hell, I might as well have the real one dump me as opposed to a wannabe.

Number 9 is channeling too much PJ Harvey. Again, why settle for an imitation.

If I weren't so tired, I'd give ya a pictoral tour of who those gals are emulating. Lots of 'separated at birth' looks going on.

Of course, you both choose #6..as she's got a touch of that Ronstadt thing goin' on.

Well, I'd have to agree with you both that Miss #6 is indeed fine, but I might also lean towards 1. THE CHICK IN THE MIDDLE FROM AU REVOIR SIMONE as I definitely have a thing for girls that are tall and leggy. Good song too.

Not to wreck it, but isn't there a big Kate Moss meets Jenny Lewis sort of thing going on there?

The good news is that she looks like when she dumps you, it would be out of ennui, which may be preferable to the more emotive/violent sort.

I think I'm having one of those days where everything seems derivative.

Mmm...Kate Moss, Jenny Lewis, Katy...I love them all.

Kate Moss meets Jenny Lewis= Low maintenance cute singer with extra long legs. Very good.
