this program is useful too as it tests your computers ability to handle data streams.

Thanks, but as it happened, the link was infected with malware that took my Ad-Aware half an hour to get rid of. I am safe, but think I will stay clear of that place for now
Anyway, I can play Left 4 Dead with some rather awesome settings, so I believe my PC is ok
the link is fine. have you heard of the term *false positive*?
I would not have posted something that was harmful. Nor would the guy that gave it to me(who is a code guy for intel and who happens to be my brother in law)
NC, I am aware of that, and I am good about it. The fact is that my computer froze up for
The next time you are hit with malware, try Malware Bytes, available here. This is excellent software, which I have used to cure malware infections on my clients' PCs.
I know the program well. Thanks a bunch, but I am being protected in that area. Ad-Aware Plus and F-Secure. Furthermore every single port on my router is stealth. Thx anyway.
Keld,
I don't think the latency checker contains any malware. Norton Internet Security 2010 pronounced it infection free and I suffered no such ill effects when I ran the program.
As an aside I stopped using Ad-aware because of the number of false positives, its detection rate isn't that great either. F-Secure is good but it still only blocked around 80% of threats (out of 85% detected) in a recent test.
Of course malware is always a game of percentages; no protection is absolute.
Not long ago the word was that Norton generally sucked, but it seems things change. Anyway, I downloaded the latency checker again, installed it, and this time with no problems at all. Strange!
It became such a bloated resource hog that unless you were running a very modern fast machine you were screwed.
Norton Intenet Utilities did indeed suck bigtime until the 2009 version which was a major rewrite, in particular addressing the resource consumption issue mentioned above by RG.
It's funny to reflect that a bit of PC weirdness is just part of every day life these days. Only a couple of thousand years ago the sorts of things my PC does on a daily basis would have had people inventing religions to explain!
Perhaps even a hundred years ago.
I've always said that hi tech evolves much quicker than our knowledge. It seems to accelerate every single day.
