It would nice if this was doable, would help me a lot, and a lot of others.

You would do well to read the Stereophile and The Absolute Sound reviews carefully and thoroughly. I, personally, would not buy an expensive speaker system without looking at a review and then auditioning them in my home, with my equipment and my acoustic situation. The reviews available on this website cover most of the recommended components, which is another place to look.

Stereophile reviews seem to do a good job of describing the "flavor", if you will, of a speaker system, so look there first if you can. If the exact model of speaker has not been reviewed, see if you can find reviews of similar speakers from the same company to get some guidance.

I do everything in the way of research that I can short of purchasing, and then buy from Audio Advisor or a similar company that allows a 30-day trial period.

Yes, it is a big pain to return them if it comes to that, but I find that it seldom does if I have done my homework ahead of time. And if you have made a mistake, better to ship them back than to be stuck with them.

There is NO WAY to know what you are getting until you hear it in your room, with your amplifier etc.; so DO IT!!!

Can you (should you) buy equipment from The Absolute Sound?

Thanks everyone for your comments. The online options (after lots of research) seem to be the way for me to go. Maybe I’m just missing the old days where there were so many more stores to go listen to equipment.

That was a mental hiccup...lol...I meant to refer to Audio Advisor.
