Thanks. I'll give those both a good look out for. I'd like some good speakers for excellent mid-range and treble performance... with a dedicated sub for entirely for bass.
I've heard that bookshelves with high-performance low frequencies have but average mid-range.. is this usually the case?
I wouldn't know. I do know that the mids on the Paradigms are excellent. Neither of those models extend very far down. I believe the Atom (smaller of the two) will go to about 50-55Hz, so you would want a dedicated sub, anyway. I'm not familiar with any bookshelf speaker that is full-range, so with the sort of listening you do, I wouldn't argue with a subwoofer. I don't, however, have any recommendations as far as subs are concerned because I'm just not familiar with them. Happy hunting!
Hmm, I've looked at plenty of speakers. Currently, I'm pretty taken by the Epos ELS-3 Loudspeakers and the B&W DM601 S3 Speakers and in my opinion, the B&Ws look pretty damn sexy. But yeah, I'll definately listen to all I can when I (hopefull) visit my nearest Hi-Fi dealer.
I'm new here, and wanted to chime in on the speaker choice. I recently purchased a set of EPOS ELS-3's and I cannot imagine a better speaker for the money. I paid 294, including shipping, from Exclusive Disc.
As you may know, the ELS-3's are highly recommended by various audiophile reviewers, including Stereophile. I used to have DCM Time Windows, but I got rid of them a while back. This time I was looking for bookshelf speakers that were inexpensive. I am very impressed with the EPOS speakers and would recommend that you give them a listen.
My system consists of vintage Precision Fidelity separates (the C7 and M8), and a CJ Walker turntable. These speakers do justice to the system. They are very clear and cover everything well, except the very low end. The speakers to not go below 65hz; however, there is very good definition on the upper bass range. As one of the previous responders suggested, a subwoofer may be a good idea if you go for the ELS-3s (or most any other bookshelf speaker). In fact, if anyone knows of a good, inexpensive subwoofer that matches the ELS-3's, I'd appreciate hearing from them myself.
Infinity Primus 160s ($128 a pair new Buy it Now on eBay) and Infinity PS-10 sub ($225).
Give Paradigm's offerings a listen. You really can't go wrong with a pair of Atoms or Titans.
Thanks. I'll give those both a good look out for.

Good luck.
