Sony Walkman to DAC? Generally the same as a streamer?

Hi everyone! I AM a newbie, and I didn't know whether to post this in the newbie folder or in this folder- forgive me if I chose wrong.

I'm pulling together my equipment and thinking about cost. I want to get the most out of music streaming, but can't afford a $1,000 streamer.

My question is this: Would buying a Sony Walkman NW-A55 and coupling it with a Schiit Modi 3 achieve roughly the same thing as buying a separate streaming component? Would this produce a pretty good hiRes audio experience?

Again, I'm a newbie, so be nice! lol

Use case(s)

Even if there was a way to connect the NW-A55 to the Modi 3+, it wouldn't make sense since the NW-A55 has a more capable DAC (according to the specs):

You should check out the features of the Bluesound Node, which functions as a streamer and DAC, and is well under $1K. (Note that Bluesound also offers a Powernode, which adds amplification.)

But before you even jump in to any recommendations you may get in this thread, what exactly is it that you are trying to accomplish? Which sources are you trying to play: device storage, local network, subscription-based, other, or all of the above?

Sounds like you need to consider all of your use cases before spending even a penny.

Thanks for the reply!

I would use it to play Spotify. I realize this is kind of an audiophile no no, but I hear their premium streaming bitrate is pretty high. I mostly play records, but would like to be able to stream music when I’m in a rush.

For records and Spotify in your budget...

...take a look at the NAD C 368 BluOS-2i and Marantz PM7000N.
