Should Hi Fi sound "better" in Europe?

Years ago, when I was first experimenting with aftermarket power cords, I spoke to Mike Creek about something related to this. He suggested that the 220v in Europe might make hearing changes in power cords less noticeable and the benefits possibly negligible; that said, I've seen posts in other forums by Europeans that claim the benefits of employing aftermarket power cords in their systems.

Higher voltage means less current is needed to possibly perform the same task. With that said an audio power supply still needs to be well regulated and filtered, and have large enough supply capcitors to handle the dynamic range the amp can deliver.

I would have doubts that weather 220V/50 hz is sonically superior to 117v/60 hertz here. If you are hearing the effects of either line voltage then the equipment is of poor design.

I find intersting is that those who employ power conditioning that allows altering of the line frequency believe their gear sounds better at certain frequencies. I would not dispute this claim...if wire can sound different then...

The quality of my hearing at 59 and my current gear would not allow me to hear the difference I suspect. Hey, besides I now find myself becoming more out-of-phase and more "frequent". Who said these years were golden must have been about 30!

Buddha,i know this does not answer your question but i've read quite a few times that our 240v is sonically superior to your 110v , don't ask me why though,i can hardly hear any differences between power cords, let alone mains lol
Richard Gray has a component (line re-generator?) for the local market (US) that converts 110v to 240v , i quess he knows better.

Now different voltages sound different!!!! Cool. If a 1000W amplifier is 1000W if it's 240V or 125V How does it have different watts of sound. Simply put P=EI even though AC doesn't use simple Ohms law. Why does my electric shaver shave the same at 240 or 120V Only advantage of higher volts is less current, P=EI. Which is why cars are heading on up to 48V so the wires can get smaller, they is getting HEAVY and expensive in a car loaded up with all kinds of STUFF. So if a 240V supply in an amp sounds different than a 120V, yet teh output is teh same for the same speaker no matter what comes in the AC line, how can that be, using the incrredible audiophile dislogic? so the next upgrade for expensive TT are 240V motors? Yeah, ya take 120 jack it to 240V and spin the platter...I can see the next VPI update $1,000. and of course it's audible!!!Why would 50Hz sound better or differetn than 60Hz, when power conditoners nutty fruit cakes sellsers are selling their magic stuff that re gens at higher freqs etc...all this stuff contridicts teh previous magic. Magic should never contridict, magic should be logical. And technically you should not use a transforerm designed for 60Hz on 50Hz or vice versa, unless it's made for both, their are technical issues with heats of the coils etc. Many small consumer devices are dual rated, but for max efficeincy in heavy duty stuff, transformers are made for a specific freq. So teh original Beatles' and Rolling Stones recordings where done probably at 240V 50Hz converted to a recordings, shipped to teh US, played back at 60Hz 120V...how does all this back and forth changes keep working anyway? And they used some U.S. made Fenders and gibsons!! Maybe we never heard teh real recordings since all this stuff was transformed in freqs and voltage levels back and forth....how can you possibly sleep at night? If teh guitar strings where made on 60Hz machines and played back on 50Hz powered amplifiers, eeeeesssshhhh, there could be an audible mismactch of freqs, I think FuruTech should start selling a string freq converter device, MF should be teh first to hear teh difference, and IMPROVEMENTS of course.

DUP, didn't Stephen ask you to expand your palate a little?

I wasn't making a claim, I was asking a question.

Will MF expand his? And maybe come up with something very expesnive that is really no goood. THAT would be a unique review for a change, rather than waiting for measuremetns to display the faults of expensive stuff. Rather than possible inaccurate ears caliming some mystical superiority. Think how more interesting StereoPhile would be if when you seen an article by MF, and you wouldn't knwo what to expect? Instead of oh boy MF glorfying another overpriced absurdity, let's see him knock some overpriced absuridty, it would sure build credbility, rahter thean him always coming off a the Rush Limbaugh of hi fi absurditys. No matter what it is, it's the greatest thing this day!!! Come on MF, do real reviews and let it rip.

If only DC power had won over AC. None of that 60 or 120Hz hum. Nice quite power. Or why didn't the power companies choose a frequency for our power system above 20 KHz?

I'm in Europe and needed to modify my Nordost Valhalla power cords thinner to get synergy. The original sounded too heavy with lack of transparency and detail.

16 awg power cord size sounds the best in my system.

Patrick, thanks!

That's very interesting!
