Modern two channel pre and integrated amps are increasingly outfitted with inputs referred to as Home Theater Bypass, Unity Gain, Processor or Tape Loop. This conveniently enables you to share speakers and amps between systems without switching interconnect or speaker cables.

All two channel sources can be connected to the integrated and controlled accordingly from there. When using the Home Theater Reciever the pre functions of the integrated are bypassed and it acts merely as an amp. Channel levels can be adjusted through the settings in the HTR.

The Rogue Preamp provides these but looks as if the integrated does not. I believe some of the Prima Lunas do provide this convenience. There are of course many others.

I would also like to ask a similar question: I have a small solid state ampl., often used by the kids, and a not kid-friendly valve amplifier. I have been looking for some time for a "high end" switch that would allow me to use both with the same (stereo) speakers without moving around speaker cables and without introducing distortions. Any suggestions? Thanks.

How about connecting the main front speakers to the Rogue integrated amp's speaker terminals, then run RCA cable from an aux input on the Rogue to the pre-outs on the HTR. Now the Rogue pre-amp and amplifier are driving the speakers all the time, regardless of whether you are listening to sources that are input to the Rogue or to the HTR. The HTR sends pre-out line-level signals to the Rogue aux input when you are watching a 5.1 movie. Since it is pre-out, the HTR isn't processing anything on the channels connected to the Rogue, right? Or no?

No. The pre outs of the HTR are processed and variable, not fixed. You would be running through two preamps which is undesireable. Rogue may be able to mod a unit for you. Worth a call to the manufacturer.

This would seem an entirely different situation to which I am unfamiliar with any high end solution. Hopefully someone else will chime in with potential possibilities.
