Science behind power cables?

I know this topic has been beaten to death for years, but one thing bugs me a lot. It has been debated for many years that the power comes into your house after miles of powerlines, transformers, circuit breakers, etc. So how can a 6' length of audiophile cable dramatically improve the sound? If you are of the school that cables can only degrade the performance, then why not just hook up the electronics using a power cable made from Romex? I know it's very stiff, but just in principle. Or, if audiophile cables actually DO somehow improve the sound, then why 6' length? How about a 3' length, or a 1' length? Would they also improve the sound? How about a 20' length? Would that be even better than the 6' length?

Love to hear additional thoughts.

Check with the electrical codes in...

...your community first.

Then, if you are scientist, found out and answer the question yourself.

And let us know.

Power cables

I hope anyone reading my post would realize I was raising hypothetical questions, not actual recommendations. I would not be able to, or try to, hook up equipment to the house mains. But I still think it raises valid questions. I hope future posters to this thread will make a thoughtful answer. So, if anyone has a HELPFUL response it would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, this subject has been beaten to death...

...over the decades.

If you look through all the information and discussion ever posted about power cables, you'll find some "white paper" research, but mostly advertising, opinion, and conjecture. You'll find lots of comparisons amongst power cables, some blind, mostly sighted, but mostly you'll read hotly debated discussions about this controversy evoking piece of equipment.

Go to any audio/stereo forum.

You'll literally find years of it.

Totally agree

Yes, you can find tons of opinions and explanations for this fact. Yet, the dichotomy of opinion remains. Doesn't help explain why you have to pay more for a 6' hi-end cable than it does to power your entire neighborhood. Makes no sense to me, yet my stereo sounds much better with a great cable than without. What's going on? I don't expect to have someone come up with an answer, but I hope to generate some thoughts. I would love to engage in some thinking regarding this issue.

I remember back in the day when Tara Labs made an inexpensive cable (solid core copper) and the Absolute Sound raved about it, and they were right. It did sound excellent! Shortly thereafter cable prices rocketed to the moon. Some were good, some OK. Yet I feel like we are missing the forest for the trees. Anyway, love to hear opinions, science, and especially facts regarding this topic.

If the power company is

Let’s say the power company is located 10,000 miles away from your house. You push the power ON switch on the amp. How long does it take for electrical power to enter the amplifier?
