Rogue Hydra amp

Hi All,
Is anyone in this forum using the Rogue Hydra amp? If so how do you like it? I am trying to decide between this amp and the Rogue Stereo-100. How hot will the Stereo-100 get, will it heat up a room 13' x 20'?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you
Herbert

Hydra

Herbert, I have had a Hydra for years. It is no longer my primary amp but it is a wonderful unit. Deep and immersive soundstage. Very detailed. The only thing I would say is that the stock tubes stink. It will cost you $200 to $250, but a matched pair of either NOS Mullards (long plates if you can find them) will add depth and warmth while NOS Mazda Ciftes will add depth and sparkle. I run the Ciftes and have been super happy and also have a pair of RCAs that were good all around tubes. I have other, much better (and way more expensive) amps but really love this one and think it is an amazing value and will never sell it.

The Stereo 100 is going to be warm in terms of temp but is not going to be as bad as some higher powered amplifiers would be. That amp is best in triode at 50w. It sounds very good in Ultralinear at 100w but I think I like the Hydra better. If 50w is enough, I would probably lean toward the Stereo 100.

Full Disclosure - I am the owner of Verdant Audio who is a loudspeaker manufacturer and the importer for Art Audio, Canor Audio, and importer and retailer for many other brands. I have no affiliation with nor do I sell Rogue. This is a required disclosure for all posts on Stereophile

Thanks

Hi bierfeldt,
Thank you very much for replying to my post. It is very hard trying to buy a
amp and pre-amp without being able to hear or see them. You have to rely on input from other people,
but everyone has deference taste.

The only amp I have been able to audition was the Primaluna 300 EVO, I'm not sure if I liked it any better
then my Rogue Sphinx v2, really not sure. The amp sounds good, but my Sphinx sounds good too. Really
wish I could hear Rogue Hydra and Stereo-100.

Thanks again for your reply. I really appreciate your input.

Herbert
