Resurrecting an old audio system, need phono cartridge help.

I am resurrecting one of my old audio systems from back in the 80's and I am looking for some help/guidance with the phono cartridge.

The turntable is a Rega Planar 3 with a Linn Basic LVX tonearm. The cartridge is missing the cantilever and I have no idea of the brand. It's a metal case with a grey "nose" on the front. I suspect it's a Linn, possibly a K9, but don't know for sure as there are no markings on the body other than "Japan" on the body.

I'm open to a stylus replacement or replacing the entire cartridge with a $250 budget.

The turntable will be feeding a Hafler DH-110 preamp, a DH-220 amp, and a pair of PSB speakers.

The Ortofon 2M Blue won't fit the Linn headshell so that's out.

Also, I read the Grado's are susceptible to hum from the Rega's motor. I have no idea how factual this is.

Suggestions and reccomendations?

Thanks in advance.

Food for Thought

Why not replace the tonearm and cartridge?

Hi there.

Hi there.

I'm not absolutely positive about compatibility, but within that price range and with the associated equipment in mind, I would likely go with a Nagaoka MP-150. Great cartridge overall, and in my opinion, nearly unbeatable at that price point.

Good luck!
