A loose belt will give you speed variations, not just a slower speed. Maybe there's something wrong with the motor? Do you have a strobe disk to check what's really happening to the speed?
On the other hand Mavis might be on steroids.
Gently pull the subplatter from the bearing well and check to see if there is lubrication in the well and in what condition it is. Another idea is to make sure the belt is clean and lube from the well did not get on the belt and cause slipping.
I am also interested in how you are modding your table. I have modded mine so much I call it FrankenRega. My Rega Planar 2 has the Incognito rewired tonearm, the Michell Technoweight, ceramic main bearing, Deep Groove subplatter and Funk Firm Achroplat. Just keeps getting better.
What do you think of the replacement bearing? I am considering this as the cost is right!

Reading through old notes my initial reaction was of smoother and quieter rotation. I had written better seperation between instruments and more audible decay of notes.
yea, im a dumbass.
the table was tilted and not tracking right. plus, i was very drunk.
I just ordered this for my other p2..
