Receiver interference?

I started small into the better quality stereo stuff by getting a Creek OB-11 headphone amp with quality interconnects. When I use it the bass sounds distorted but if I turn on the receiver it's connected to that problem disappears. I also disconnected the interconnects from the amp to receiver and that worked too. Any ideas?

How are the headphone amp and receiver connected? (what output to what input?)

What are you using as your source component and how is it connected?

What headphones? (curiosity question)

Nice little headphone amp. Are you pleased with it otherwise?

The amp has one set of inputs that come from a garden variety Panasonic DVD/CD player and the outputs are connected to the video inputs on the receiver because I use the receiver to listen to dvd's also. I have Grado SR-80's and really like them.
