Let us know what you think of the Behringer. It may do the job quite well.
You have an interesting set of hobbies. Having lived for years with llamas, alpacas, hand-spinning and knitting I know exactly how exotic some of the fibers can be (like vicu
Lets see, expensive meats, high priced wool, you are primed to be an audiophile. It's only a small step from high priced wool to high priced cables. After all, they both come on spools.
The Behringer seems to do the trick. Not a bad product for $30. There's no buzzing or hum, the sound is pretty clean on my relatively decent LG-costco-type stereo. It was totally idiot-proof. The nice thing is I can upgrade later.
I like using this Technics, except...
The pitch...The pitch control doesn't seem to have a "centre" notch, so I kind of have to guess what the correct pitch is...Also, sometimes, the pitch seems a bit uneven and wobbly when it's playing. It's almost imperceptible and it might even be my imagination, but I'm wondering if this is normal.
Any thoughts?
The pitch control probably goes both flat and sharp so I would eyeball it in the center. This is just a guess however. The best thing to do is to find a recording with a defined pitch and check it against an external reference (such as a test LP with a 440Hz tone on it.)
As far as the wobble, you may be hearing the little variations in speed that the TT is generating. Some are particularly sensitive to this. My guess you are one of these. Often there isn't much you can do. Make sure the TT is level. If it is belt drive, a new belt may help.
I probably am being too sensitive to it...I'm noticing it less the more I listen to it...
Thanks...
Nothing wrong with being sensitive. This brings to mind an article by Bob Deutsch, which you might find interesting: Are You a Sharpener or a Leveler?
That is a great little article. I'm definitely a sharpener in all aspects of my life, even in teaching I think. But I could probably use some more leveler in me.
I think my favourite line though is:
"Progress is made by accumulating small improvements until they add up to a major one."
I may have to steal that for a signature.
also...remember my Panasonic component system with the turntable attached?
We've moved that up to the bedroom, which I have to say is pretty "pimp-my-bedroom" because it's so big. But the idea of listening to vinyl while, um...getting dressed for work, is pretty excessive and awesome!
Ha! Yeah, listening to vinyl while, um, you know, getting dressed for work and stuff, is the BEST!
Yeah, that's why I still keep a record changer around.
Stack 6 Lp's and I'm good to go.
Only six?! I figured you'd have to cue up at least a couple of Miles Davis box sets.
Yes!
This is where I have found a music server great. I can cue up Live at the Plugged Nickel and let it go for the day. Great stuff.
6 LPs, huh?
Yeah, I'm not sure I'd need a record changer for that sort of thing.
In fact, I'm really more of 45 kinda guy...maybe a 10 inch (no pun) EP if I've had few beers.
That's bound to change with time
