Ping JA: Jitter article, how is the signal introduced to the DUT?

Dear JA,
you've made my day. It started off quite gloomy but now I've read your Jitter measurement article and the sun is shining.

Reading through your article one question started floating around. How do you introduce the test signal to the device under test?

Glad you enjoyed the piece. I have 2 more planned: on D/A processors and on transports.

For the disc players, I play a CD-R burned with the J-Test signal. For the iPods, I used the original J-Test WAV file transcoded to Apple Lossless and played back from both the headphone jack and a dock. (The latter are the results shown in the article.) For the McIntosh MS750, I tried both the CD-R and playback from its hard drive of a FLAC version of the J-Test tone.

I have to agree with the OP, John, that article was, quite simply, outstanding.

Many thanks.

Thank you. It seemed appropriate to wrap up the year with an article like this and there wasn't room for it in the print magazine.

Mark Levinson No.30.6

John, I intensely request that you also include your reference DAC, Mark Levinson No.30.6 Reference D/A processor, in the forthcoming article on D/A processors. It will be great to see the comparison of the old King with the new Knights.
