hi, I got an old Phase linear preamplifier 4000 and 400W amplifier and it sounded great till a disturbing noise started appearing each time i was switching it on and off. It seems to me as there should be some kind of fuse between the preAmpl and the speakers?? anyone has experience on that?
What kind of noise?

Take the above advice. A pre amplifier must pass its signal through a power amplifier in order to drive the speakers. There is no place for a fuse between a pre amp and the speakers.
