Mr. Lowry you are quite right about how wonderful an album "Rough Mix" is, however, there was an "audiophile" pressing of this album available a few years ago from one of those mail order audiophile vendors (Music Direct or Acoustic Sounds) that offers truly superior sound that pushes the album "from great for a Rock recording to exceptional for a Rock recording." Well worth seeking out.

While I agree that a truly first rate analog front end and a record that has been perfectly produced (from mastering to pressing) has the potential to out perform great digital I believe that rarely happens. My analog set up (Project 1.2, Grado Gold, Project Phono box, no record cleaning machine) is nowhere near as good as my digital front end (Primare D20 used as a transport and Theta DS Pro basic III) so I consume nearly all my music through CDs.
