The editorial department doesn't see the actual advertisements in an issue until after it has shipped, so there is no question of our planning our review coverage based on what ads are going to appear. However, Ortofon were well aware that reviews of their products were planned for this issue, as they received the preprints in order to prepare their "Manufacturer's Comment" letter. There was time, therefore, for both them and Needle Doctor to book ads in that issue.
We do not allow advertisers to quote from a review that is published in the same issue. We also make sure that ads for a products do not appear within or adjacent to a review of the same product. But there is no overall ban of advertising from manufacturers whose products are mentioned in the same issue.
