I'm a big fan of Type 4. I've used it for 12 years and have played around
with wire way more than most people. Almost all better wire will offer some
things that are superior to Type 4. Most have better bass control, a wider
and deeper stage, superior timbre and better bloom. However, all that I've
tried also come with trade-offs in areas that the Type 4 seems to get right.

In my opinion, the strongest virtue of Type 4 is its superior resolution on
balance and across the widest frequency spectrum. It seems to resolve what's
on the disc and has the fewest notches in doing so. And, I've never found it
to be fatiguing, even with poor recordings or entry level gear.

Whether or not you achieve an improvement in sound with different cables will
be a matter of what aspects you find most appealing. If you are the kind of guy
who can give up a little resolution for improvements in other areas of reproduction,
then you will likely be impressed with what different cables can do for your
system. If you listen mostly to acoustic or classical music, I think you are more
likely to benefit from better cables. Type 4 is more of an all purpose, cross genre
type of wire.
