New Poster, Looking for Fine Tuning

Hey guys, new here, and to be totally honest, probably wont stick around after I get a few pointers, just looking for specific advice.

I have a garage gym, and music is king, so here's my setup:

2 Pioneer SP-BS22 bookshelf speakers on a shelf about 5'

1 Polk Sub PSW10
1 Yamaha R-S202 Receiver

I listen to a lot of Metal/Alternative music, so I guess I'm looking for more of a hard kick than drawn out base drops.

I just want to tune it so its crisp and hits hard.

I am no audio file, but I spend enough time in there that I'd like to give this thing the tuning it deserves.

I appreciate any advice, and feel free to ask me for any more information, thanks!

I suspect that your problem

I suspect that your problem may be the acoustics of the space.

Acoustics

I'm sure that's playing a role, but I guess I'm specifically looking for general starting point regarding where to set the low pass filter/base settings for most applications, and I can play and tune from there
