I'd also consider the Jolida JD1501A 100 wpc hybrid integrated amplifier for $695. The preamp section has 12AX7 input tubes driving a MOSFET solid state power amp section. Very good sound for not a lot of money. That leaves enough money for a pair of used Vandersteen 2Ce Signature or Signature IIs.

100 wpc should be enough power to get satisfying sound levels from the Vandersteens in your large room.
Cheers, jackfish!
Do you think that the 80W from the NAD won't be enough power to fill a 30' x 17' room? I'll definitely look into the Jolida. I just have to find someone in Toronto that sells the brand.
Certainly, with the right speakers the 80 wpc NAD would be fine. I'd look for a pair you like the sound of with a sensitivity rating of 90 dB or higher. Probably would be enough for the Vandersteens as well but could be marginal if you like it loud. There really isn't a whole lot of difference between the 80 wpc and 100 wpc. You really need to double the output to hear much difference.
I can't think of any Jolida dealers in Toronto now that High End Audio is out of business. You could try Arthur Salvator, he might know where you can listen to Jolida stuff. http://www.high-endaudio.com/index_he.html Response Audio in Endicott, NY is over a five hour drive from Toronto, but has Jolida. If you go there make an appointment and see if they have a JD 1501A first.
You can find out where to listen to Vandersteens at Justice Audio in Woodbridge, just outside of Toronto.
Executive Stereo in Toronto, and Audio Eden in Markham are both Vandersteen dealers.
Let me know if you find any dealers in Toronto who carry tube amps, I have been looking for an upgrade as well (along the lines of primaLuna, jolida). The Vandersteens are great. I will probally go with them, just wondering if it is worth a drive to Ottawa or London to hear Harbeths.
