Buy two pairs of Insignia 6 1/2" Bass-Reflex loudspeakers at Best Buy and just use one for your center (keep the spare as a back up). Then when you can afford some decent speakers you will have not been out too much in your first purchase. The Insignias are amazingly good for $70 a pair. Read the customer reviews at the Best Buy site (link above) and the buzz about them at AudioKarma.org.

You have made many good posts in this section.
I guess I should have added when Coldsnap finally does get good fronts and a center the Insignias would make good surround speakers until those could be upgraded.
