Marantz SR7005 HDMI Out only Video howto question

I am trying to use my Marantz SR7005, connected to a TV on the HDMI output, with a HDMI input that comes in from (I think) the "BD" input. I want to configure it so that the video output goes out to the TV, but the audio is played by my Marantz.

I have gone through all the manuals (the one that came with the Marantz, as well as the "Outlaws guide" (http://www.outlawaudio.com/outlaw/docs/Outlaw_Guide_AV7005.pdf) that I actually found more useful. I have also spent a lot of time with the menu and the settings, but I am unable to figure out how to configure it to get what I want.

At first glance, the "Set HDMI Audio output to AMP" seems to be the ticket, but (as far as I can see), toggling between it and the "TV" does nothing. Audio still comes out of the TV.

Does anybody have experience with a similar setup, and how I can go about doing it ?

Thanks in advance.

That is the correct command. However, let's see what's going on.
1. The sound of the video/audio is a BD player plugged into the HDMI input on the Marantz that is designated as "1 (BD)".
2. The HDMI output from the Marantz is the one labeled as "OUT 1 (ARC)" and it is connected to an HDMI input on the TV.
3. You do not have ARC enabled.
Can you confirm this? What TV is it?

Fixed it.

Without understanding or knowing why. The command to set the HDMI audio output to "TV" triggered the sound to now play on the Amp, and trying to change it again back to AMP kept the sound on the amp, even if I toggled it back and forth. It's now stuck on the Amp, which is okay for me, but I don't understand why it's behaving that way. It the menu selection not 'taking' ? Trying to debug this over telnet, where at least I can check the status using the "VSAUDIO ?" command.

At least from what I can see now, toggling it from TV to AMP has no effect - it still plays it on the Amp (which is what I want, so I'm not fussed about it), but I have no idea why this is not working. We're back to the realm of Ctrl+Alt+Del rebooting the device to see if we can 'fix' this.

Any helpful information about what is going on would be deeply appreciated.

I have no experience with

I have no experience with telnet access to the Marantz. I just use the RC and the screen display where I can see and hear the results. Rebooting and/or "Factory Restore" are possibilities.

Answers..

Thanks so much for the response - it's good to hear back from somebody else (other than yourself) once in a while...
Answers:
1. Actually, I used the BD as an example. I am actually using the "VCR" input. But to confirm, yes, that is the one that the Audio/Video input is coming from. What I have, is a Google Chromecast device plugged into it.

2. Confirmed.

3. What is "ARC" ?? Ah ! Google tells me it's an "Audio Return Channel", which I had never heard of before. A search through my manual (and on-line), as well as my device's menu does not show that option. However, I do see one that says "HDMI Control", which I have turned Off, so that my music does not shut off when I power off my TV. Perhaps that is it ?

In any case, this is very much work in progress. Thank you for your kind suggestions.

Marantz SR 7005

I recently replaced my Marantz SR 7005 with a used SR 7005 because the HDMI connections on the old Marantz were creating snow on my screen, which would go away when I connected directly from my Apple TV to my DLP Marantz projector. Now the problem is that my projector cannot see anything that comes through the Marantz. The projector can when I connect directly from, for example, my BD player but as soon as I plug an HDMI cable into BD 1 and into output 1. The screen says " NO signal found".
My projector has a maximum output of 1080i and I am wondering how to change the HDMI output on the Marantz 7005 from 1080P down to 1080i so the projector can recognize the signal? I am assuming that is why the projector can't find the signal?
I have gone through all the settings and the manual and while it tells you how to change HDMI inputs it doesn't say how to change the HDMI output.
I had no problems with my old Marantz of the same model so I am assuming I have some of the settings incorrect.
Can you help?

Check if the output is set to "Output 1"

Sometimes, it is not. There are 2 "HDMI Out" ports on the back, and sometimes the one that is active is the second one. There is a menu setting to set HDMI outputs, and I'd start by looking at that one. Another way of checking if the 2nd HDMI Out port is active, is to plug your TV into that one, instead of the first.

The other one, is to get an input from a different HDMI port (than the BD). They are all essentially the same, and the labelling ("BD") is only for convenience. So (just on the off chance that your "BD" HDMI In is somehow not working properly), I'd try a different input.

Good Luck !

Changing HDMI port

Neither port is allowing the projector to see the Marantz. Is there a way to change the output HDMI to less than 1080P?

In short, yes.

Not sure how you access it in the menu, but the protocol (Marantz_AV_SR_NR_Protocol version 1) states that:

HDMI Output desc
CMD
SUBCMD
TERM
EXAMPLE
Set Resolution to 480p/576p
VS
SC48P
VSSC48P
Set Resolution to 1080i
SC10I
VSSC10I
Set Resolution to 720p
SC72P
VSSC72P
Set Resolution to 1080p
SC10P
VSSC10P
Set Resolution to 1080p:24Hz
SC10P24
VSSC10P24
Set Resolution to AUTO
SCAUTO
VSSCAUTO

This command works over telnet, but there must be something on the menu itself that lets you do the same thing.
